Are There Still Miracles?
I do not think it is so much a matter of "Is God still doing miracles and working on behalf of His people?" I think it is more a matter of "Do we have open eyes and spirits to perceive what He is doing?" Several years ago the 40 Day Spiritual Adventure challenged us to open our eyes and see at least one blessing God sent our way each day. At the start most of us could not come up with one blessing or miracle. By the end most of us were observing several each day. I do not think God changed during that time. The difference is that we did!
I am convinced that God still intervenes on our behalf and shows His love to us in many practical ways.
Recently I had some examples of that. My son Joseph is a senior in High School and is dealing with that great question of what to do next. The decision to attend college and major in Computer Science was relatively easy for him. The harder issue was which one to attend. He narrowed it down to two universities and we decided that a trip to visit them was in order.
The first miracle was needed just to take the trip.
There were absolutely no funds for a trip that involved air fare to three different cities, plus the funds for lodging, meals, and rental cars. God provided enough funds for all that in a very special manner. There is no doubt in my mind that He answered that prayer and intervened to bring the funds to us.
The second miracle was in the timing of the visits.
One of the universities scheduled a weekend event of a competition for a big scholarship. Joseph qualified for the competition so we knew when we had to do the trip. In looking at plane fares, timing, and other scheduling considerations we decided that we needed to visit the other university first. I figured we would be doing the basic campus tour, talk to the admissions people, and maybe sit in on a class. That would help, but God had something better in mind. They scheduled an open house for that very day! The result is that Joseph was able to make up his mind with confidence and assurance of which one he is supposed to attend.
There was a third miracle.
We had a flight delayed. After sitting in the airport for along time the weather delayed plane finally came in only to be towed from the gate. We then heard the announcement to change gates as we would be boarding another plane which should arrive soon. All in all it was a long delay, the kind of delay that ruins connections with other flights and plans at your destination. In our flight to our first and third destinations we had to make connections. This delay happened on the way to our second destination - no connections! Plus we had nothing scheduled that evening except a drive to the university. So nothing was ruined or even hindered. God gave us good flights, good seats, no baggage lost, really no problems at all. Plus we were not told why that plane was towed away. But my impression was that someting broke on it. Whatever hapened we flew on a plane that worked and arrived safely!
I must admit I did not catch all these miracles at once. Reflecting on the trip I could see how God guided and protected us throughout the whole thing.
Yes God does miracles large and small. God does work on behalf of His people. I am thankful that my eyes and spirit opened to see these examples. Now I can praise Him for His goodness and thank Him for His guidance.
Now I can look forward to the next adventure with more confidence. We will have to drive across 2/3rds of the country to take him to college. Plus he needs to come up with the funding for college. We have nothing for either need. Instead of anxiety, I find myself looking forward to the adventure of seeing how God will come through this time.
I know you have adventures coming up that could raise your anxiety level. Remember God is still in the miracle business and He still cares for his people. You will have some great stories and praises to share when it is all said and done.
